Designing AI experiences for enterprise
Enterprise software is at an inflection point. AI isn't just another feature to add, it's a fundamental shift in how we design for human decision-making, expertise development, and complex problem-solving.
As designers, we're uniquely positioned to shape this transformation. We understand users deeply, craft experiences that feel intuitive, and optimize complex workflows. Now, there's an opportunity to expand our craft, to design the intelligence layer that makes enterprise software truly transformative.
This cohort teaches you a fundamentally different approach: designing AI that amplifies human intelligence in complex enterprise environments.
You'll learn to identify where AI can reveal invisible patterns in overwhelming data, connect context across fragmented systems, and scaffold users toward expertise rather than just executing tasks for them.
You'll gain the frameworks and technical fluency to lead AI design decisions with confidence, moving from designing interfaces for AI to architecting intelligent experiences that fundamentally enhance how people work.
What you'll learn:
The Three-Layer Framework for Meaningful AI
Move beyond surface-level automation to design AI that truly enhances enterprise workflows:
- Signal Extraction: How AI identifies meaningful patterns hidden in overwhelming enterprise data
- Contextual Intelligence: Connecting invisible relationships across systems, timeframes, and stakeholders
- Behavioral Scaffolding: Building AI that teaches users better processes, not just faster execution
AI Technical Foundations for Designers
Gain the technical fluency to make informed design decisions and collaborate effectively with AI/ML teams:
- Token Economics & Context Design: Understanding AI's fundamental constraints as creative boundaries
- Prompt Engineering as UX Writing: Crafting AI personality and behavior through intentional instruction design
- Agentic AI & Architecture: How autonomous AI systems work and what it means for your designs
- Implementation Realities: Graceful degradation, cost management, and reliability patterns
Enterprise AI Interaction Patterns
Learn when and how to apply proven patterns across complex business contexts:
- Copilot Patterns: AI suggests, human decides (optimizing expert judgment)
- Autopilot Patterns: AI acts, human monitors (intelligent automation with oversight)
- Coach Patterns: AI teaches, human improves (scaffolding expertise development)
- Analyst Patterns: AI synthesizes, human strategizes (turning data into insights)
Navigating Enterprise Complexity
Understand what makes enterprise AI fundamentally different from consumer applications:
- Multi-stakeholder design (end users, managers, IT, compliance, executives)
- Trust and transparency requirements in high-stakes environments
- Governance, audit trails, and regulatory considerations
- Measurable ROI and business outcome requirements
- Change management and adoption strategies
Running AI Enablement Workshops
Facilitate productive conversations with stakeholders about AI opportunities:
- Stakeholder mapping and needs assessment techniques
- Workshop frameworks for identifying AI opportunities in existing workflows
- Prioritization methods: separating meaningful AI from "AI theater"
- Building consensus across technical and non-technical stakeholders
- Creating shared language between design, product, and engineering
What You'll Be Able To Do
Stop guessing where AI adds value. You'll have a systematic framework for evaluating AI opportunities—distinguishing between meaningful intelligence and "AI theater." You'll know when AI truly amplifies human capability versus when it creates dependency or distraction.
Design with technical constraints, not against them. You'll understand why context windows matter for information architecture, how token economics shape feature prioritization, and why prompt engineering is the new UX writing. These constraints will become creative opportunities, not frustrating limitations.
Facilitate productive AI conversations with stakeholders. You'll run workshops that align executives, product managers, engineers, and end users around AI opportunities. You'll build shared language across disciplines and create consensus on what to build and why.
Navigate enterprise complexity confidently. You'll design for multi-stakeholder environments where trust, transparency, and governance aren't nice-to-haves—they're requirements. You'll understand what makes enterprise AI different from consumer AI and how to design accordingly.
Ship AI features that actually work. You'll create specifications that bridge design vision and technical implementation. Developers will know exactly what context AI needs, how prompts should be structured, what happens when AI fails, and how to measure success.
Think systemically about intelligence. Beyond individual features, you'll design feedback loops that make AI smarter over time, data strategies that enable future capabilities, and experiences that teach users better mental models for their work.
